Yemen blockade: UN warns of 'untold thousands' of deathsRebel-held port of Hudaydah, Yemen (7 November 2017) Three United Nations agencies have issued an urgent appeal for the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen to fully lift its blockade of the country. The World Health Programme, World Food Programme and Unicef said the reopening of government-controlled air and sea ports this week was not sufficient. The closure of rebel-held ports was "making an already catastrophic situation far worse", they added. Without fresh supplies, the agencies warned, "untold thousands" would die. The coalition, which is supporting the Yemeni government in its war with the rebel Houthi movement, tightened its two-year blockade of Yemen's borders on 6 November in response to a ballistic missile attack on the Saudi capital Riyadh. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman accused its regional rival Iran of supplying the missile but Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denied...

Shep Smith fact-checks Fox News on Clinton, Uranium One deal

Shep Smith fact-checks Fox News on Clinton, Uranium One deal Fox News anchor Shepard Smith has earned a reputation over the years for ideological apostasy, providing a sharp mid-afternoon break from the conservative perspective that dominates the rest of the network's programming. But on Tuesday, he may have outdone himself. Over the course of six minutes, Smith provided a thorough fact-check of the latest Clinton-related conspiracy theory to capture the attention of Republican lawmakers, and his colleagues at Fox News. Smith, the chief news anchor at Fox, spelled out the specific allegation surrounding the sale of a Canadian company called Uranium One: "Nine people involved in the deal made donations to the Clinton Foundation totaling more than $140 million, In exchange, Secretary of State Clinton approved the sale to the Russians, a quid pro quo." Smith traced the origins of the claim, which has recently been in heavy circulation on Fox, but was first made in th...

The foreign consultants are expected to bring into the economic plan their intern...

Roy Moore writes open letter to Sean Hannity after Fox News host's ultimatum

Roy Moore writes open letter to Sean Hannity after Fox News host's ultimatum U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore published an open letter to Sean Hannity on Wednesday night pushing back against allegations of sexual abuse that have placed his campaign at the center of a national firestorm and prompted prominent members of the Republican Party to call on Moore to withdraw from the race. In the letter, which came one night after Hannity said he would give Moore 24 hours to explain inconsistencies in how he has addressed the allegations before calling on him to step aside in the race, Moore suggested he was the victim of a political hit job. "I am suffering the same treatment other Republicans have had to endure," Moore wrote Hannity. Moore faces accusations from multiple women that he pursued sexual relationships with them -- and in two cases engaged in sexual abuse -- while they were between 14 and 18 years old and he was in his mid-30s. Moore denied dating underage ...

Steven Mnuchin's wife strikes a pose with a sheet of money

Steven Mnuchin's wife strikes a pose with a sheet of money Louise Linton, the wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, looks thrilled that her husband's signature made it onto the dollar bill. Linton and Mnuchin posed with sheets of new $1 bills on Wednesday at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C. The notes are the first to feature Mnuchin's signature, along with that of U.S. Treasurer Jovita Carranza, and are expected to enter circulation in December. Linton was widely criticized earlier this year when she posted a photo on Instagram that showed her stepping off a government plane. She flaunted her designer wardrobe by tagging the designers she was wearing, then argued with a commenter who criticized her "getaway." The photo kicked off an investigation into Mnuchin's use of government planes. The Treasury Department's inspector general ultimately found no evidence of wrongdoing, but said the Trump administration had cut corn...

Hospital presidents talk about health issues with business owners

Hospital presidents talk about health issues with business owners Leading a major hospital in an era where health care is a political hot button means having to deal with constant change and uncertainty, the presidents of Baltimore’s two major medical centers told business leaders Wednesday. Dr. Mohan Suntha, speaking to members of the Greater Baltimore Committee, said that just that morning, he awoke to texts asking what he thought about tax reform efforts moving through Congress. Senate Republicans now want to include an amendment in their tax bill that would repeal the so-called individual mandate, the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that most people have health insurance.Suntha said the frequent talk about making changes to the landmark health law makes it difficult to plan and communicate with doctors. “Many of our physicians are wired in a way where they say, ‘Tell us the rules of the game, and we will figure out how to win.’ And their win definition is saving lives,” Suntha...
